Over the years, I’ve come across many company creeds and mission statements. Some were forgettable, but others really stuck with me. Companies like Automattic, GitHub, and Acumen have crafted creeds that feel meaningful, with values that genuinely guide how they operate. I’ve spent time reading (and re-reading) these creeds, and one thing became clear: most creeds are incredibly positive, which makes them easy to agree with on the surface. But agreeing with something doesn’t necessarily mean it aligns perfectly with what you believe or how you work.

That realization got me thinking: what exactly are my beliefs? If I were to distill the most important aspects of how I work and what matters to me into something as concise and clear as a creed, what would it look like? After all, I’ve spent 15 years in this industry, gaining experience, learning hard lessons, and figuring out what truly drives me. So, I decided to take the time to create my own personal creed, something that’s deeply personal, not just another generic statement.

Creating this creed wasn’t about trying to fit into a specific company’s mold or crafting a glorified cover letter. Instead, it’s a reflection of the values that guide me every day. It’s about the work I do, the way I collaborate with others, and what matters most to me in my career. This isn’t about aligning with any one industry or job; it’s about staying true to what I’ve learned matters most.

Through this process, I’ve honed in on eight key points that form the foundation of how I work. These aren’t abstract ideals, they’re the culmination of years of challenges, successes, and growth. They reflect how I approach my work and how I hope to inspire and collaborate with others.

I created this creed not just for myself but also as a way to share my perspective with anyone considering working with me. Whether it’s a potential employer, a colleague, or a collaborator, this creed is a clear and honest expression of who I am and what I stand for. It’s my way of ensuring that the work I do and the people I work with align with the values that mean the most to me.

This is my guide, my standard, and my promise, to myself and to the people I work with.
